The Doctor's in the House

The second season premiere of Dr. Who was on Friday. Actually the first episode was their Christmas special, The Chirstmas Invasion. At the very end of season one we were introduced to the new Doctor. In the beginning of the Christmas special Rose feels conflicted about the new Doctor. She doesn't feel like it's the same man. The Doctor becomes ill and isn't able to help earth with a new alien invasion. Our only defense is Great Britian's new prime minister, Harriet Jones, who we met last season during another alien invasion. Even though Harriet proves to be a tough cookie, Earth looks doomed until the Doctor is revieved by tea. (How British). The Doctor saves Earth and proves to Rose that even though he looks different, he's still the good old doctor. Very good episode and a great way to get the audience to accept the new Doctor also.

A couple of seasons ago, if NBC had went off the air, I wouldn't have missed it. By then the only show I watched regularly was Scrubs, and NBC was always mistreating it. Now a few seasons later, I'm suddenly finding myself enjoying NBC programming again. Last year they got me with My Name is Earl and I started watching The Office. This season they've added two new shows I really like, Heroes and Studio 60. It's no secret that I'm a big SciFi fan so a show like Heroes is right up my alley. It is a show about ordinary people developing super powers. I guess somewhere in the season these people will unite to save humanity. I like the different people who are discovering their powers especially Hiro, the Japanese office drone who can control time and space and Claire, the indestructible cheerleader. Following Heroes is Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. It has probably gotten more press than any of the other new shows. Does it live up to the hype. Not quite, it isn't the greatest show of all time, but it is a well written show that has a great cast. It's major weakness are the comedy sketches the show within the show is suppose to be doing. These sketches are suppose to show how brilliant Matt, the show's main writer is suppose to be, but they only show that Aaron Sorkin can't write good sketch comedy.
